Rocky Mountain Pottery ROMCO
Found an interesting porcelain coffee mug set yesterday. I actually missed it at first, but Rosie picked it up to buy after I passed on it. After some research, we found out that the set was vintage and made by the Rocky Mountain Pottery Company, a.k.a. ROMCO, which they used as their stamp. The pattern for this set was a popular one called the "pinecone" pattern.
"Rocky Mountain Pottery Company (ROMCO) was founded by Leland Huston in 1953 and moved to Loveland in 1957. The firm's first pottery pieces were produced to resemble wood grain and included a pine scent. Many pottery designs were produced, but its most popular line remained the wood-grained design, along with the various colors of its hand-painted pinecone line. During summers, the Loveland factory employed 35 to 40 people and offered daily tours. Two regional outlets sold ROMCO pottery during summer seasons, including one in downtown Estes Park and one in Colorado Springs. The company was sold in 1981, then again in 1986, at which time the original business came to an end." (SOURCE: Fired in the kiln: Loveland pottery exhibit at the library.)
Our set not only came with 4 cups, but has a lovely matching tray with a center gold tone handle. If anyone knows what you call this type of tray, please contact us. Thanks.
